Beazley launches Israel program
Australian Jewish News, 13 June 2003
Former federal Opposition leader Kim Beazley has launched an Israel visitors program.
An initiative of the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, the concept is to be known as the Rambam Israel FellowshipProgram. it is intended to encourage and facilitate educational and fact-finding missions to Israel by younger members of various groups, including parliamentarians, political advisers, trade unionists, journalists and the academic community.
The organising committee of the project is headed by business and communal identity Brian Sherman. [No, not Tscherman-German!]
"These specially-structured visits will provide Australian opinion leaders with a unique opportunity to experience at first-hand all that Israel and Israelis have to offer in their chosen field," Sherman said.
Beazley, who recently returned from a visit to Israel, launched the program at a reception at the Sherman Gallery, offering his perspective on the Middle East situation while doing so.
The first project will be to support a group of young political leaders who will visit Israel next month.

ASIO confirms Hezbollah terror link to Australia
Bernard Freedman
AJN, 13 June 2003
ASIO, Australia's Security Intelligence Organisation, says there is evidence suggesting the Lebanese-based terrorist organisation Hezbollah has links with Australia.
"ASIO advises that the terrorist wing of Hezbollah is an organisation with global reach which poses a security threat to Australian interests," Attorney-General Daryl Williams said this week.
"It is also well known that the Hezbollah External Security Organisation has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks against western and other interests dating back to the 1980s," he said.
"ASIO advises that it continues to have the capacity and support necessary for further operations, and is assessed to have global reach. ASIO also advises that there is evidence to suggest that it has links into Australia."
Adelaide Institute asks:
1. Where is Australia's Moslem community organising like visits to Palestine?
2. Where is the World Moslem community doing its bit to sell Palestine so that ASIO regards Israelis travelling to Israel, and serving in the Israeli Defence Force, as terrorists?
