Wiesenthal pushing for Greek film | JTA | December 31, 2003

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is pushing Greek television to reinstate
financial backing for a Holocaust documentary. The ET-3 television station
withdrew its support for "The Diabolic Dr. Merten," about Max Merten's role

in exterminating Greek Jews during the Holocaust, without explanation, the
organization said. "This decision calls into question whether the Greek
government, which has shown so little good faith in responding to
contemporary manifestations of anti-Semitism, is actually serious about its
recent announcements establishing an official Holocaust memorial day for
the martyred Jews of Greece," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the center's
associate dean. Achilles Paparsenos, a Greek embassy spokesman in
Washington, said he
was unaware of ET-3's action, but he said the Greek government remained
committed to combating anti-Semitism and commemorating the Holocaust.
