but this gets interesting:

5. The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known.

The most recognized symbol for
the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is
taken from the Koran, the Islamic Holy Book:
"For it is written that a
son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be
felt throughout the lands of Allah while some of the people trembled in

rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was
peace."

his book, L'antisémitisme son histoire et ses causes, published
in 1894, noted Jewish author, Bernard Lazare, stated the following with regard
to these expulsions of Jews,
"If
this hostility, even aversion, had only been shown towards the Jews at one
period and in one country, it would be easy to unravel the limited causes of
this anger, but this race has been on the contrary an object of hatred to all
the peoples among whom it has established itself. It must be therefore, since

Jesse H. Holmes, writing in, The American Hebrew, expressed the

call for help on racism.

Australia’s
Jewish community called yesterday on the Federal Government to introduce
protective legislation for minority groups following an increase in anti-semitic
attacks. The president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Mr Leslie
Caplan, said the number of anti-semitic incidents had risen to 144 last year.
They include the fire-bombing of synagogues, anti-Jewish graffiti and Jews
being pelted with eggs in the streets. Mr Caplan, who is in Adelaide for the
annual meeting of the executive council, said the biggest rise was in NSW.
“Clearly racism is growing and it needs to be addressed by responsible
government,“ he said. “You can tell the freedom of a country by the way it
protects its minorities.“ Mr Caplan said there were incidents of rabbis in
SA receiving abusive phone calls and of anti-Jewish graffiti being found on
walls.
A
photographer from The Australian, Mr Hugh Hartshorne, had his film confiscated
yesterday by security staff at the meeting. He was accused of photographing
the security system at the Nathan and Miriam Solomon Jewish Community Centre
on the pretext of photographing Mr Caplan.

JEWISH
leaders have slammed the recent establishment of the Committee to Dismantle
Zionism by two Jewish Australian academics, which accuses Israel of genocide.
Academics
John Docker and Ned Curthoys, from the Australian National University in
Canberra, said they established the committee last month to “repudiate
Israel’s claim that it acts in the name of Jews the world over.We deplore
the ‘myth of Israel’ as perpetual victim and rational peace-seeker,” the
pair released in a statement. “It seems clear to us that Israel ... is
a genocidal settler colonial society that, since its founding in 1948,
continually seeks to destroy the foundations of life of the indigenous
Palestinians.”
In
another statement posted under the title “How to dismantle Zionism in a few
easy steps” on Independent Australian Jewish Voices co-founder Antony
Loewenstein’s blog, the pair further clarified the committee’s aims by
declaring the idea of a Jewish state to be “absurd, unjust and ultimately
untenable”.
Among
the committee’s goals is supporting the cultural and economic boycott of
Israel, urging Diaspora Jews to renounce the Jewish right of return and
endorsing the “unconditional right for Palestinian refugees ... to return to
their homes”.
When
contacted by the The AJN, Curthoys said: “I am only one of a number of
Jewish voices ... who no longer believes that Israel’s aggressive
territorial nationalism can ever bring peace to the Middle East or long-term
security to its various peoples”.
The
duos’ comments have sparked the ire of Jewish leaders, who have called their
statements “unsubstantiated” and “extreme”.
Executive
Council of Australian Jewry president Robert Goot said, “The views expressed
by this self-appointed father and son pseudo-academic committee of two are so
contemptible and so far removed from reality, fact and rational thought that
they do not warrant further consideration.”
Zionist
Federation of Australia president Philip Chester said that while he was
“disappointed” the statements came from people of the Jewish faith, he
does not believe their views represent the mainstream view of the Jewish
community.
“Because
these views are so marginal and these people are not part of ... any
responsible communal position, I don’t believe that they will attract any
significant following within the community,” he said. “Our community was
very understanding and supportive of the Gaza operation, as it understood that
Israelis could not continue to live with constant, unrelenting bombardment
from Hamas in Gaza. Indeed, most ... western countries also understood why

More
than $4million for Holocaust survivors

AUSTRALIAN
Holocaust survivors will receive more than $4 million in the latest round of
allocations from the Claims Conference. The Claims Conference, which
distributes compensation to Jewish victims of the Nazis, has provided $255
million in 43 countries for 2009.
Among
the recipients in Australia are Jewish Care Victoria, and JewishCare and the
Jewish Centre on Ageing in New South Wales. All the funds are used to provide
a range of services to Holocaust survivors living locally.
Warren
Hurst, executive officer at JewishCare, explained that the organisation
receives annual payments from the Claims Conference, but he expects this
income to dry up by 2014.
At
the moment, he said Claims Conference funding is used on a range of programs,
including home-support programs and other welfare services for elderly
survivors.
It
also funds 11 friendship clubs in Sydney, which provide companionship and
recreational activities for survivors, as well as Club 50 Survivors of the
Shoah, which has around 330 members.
Meanwhile,
Melbourne-based survivors will have to wait a few more weeks before learning
of the final direction of Claims Conference funds. Jonny Ucko, strategic
marketing and communications manager at Jewish Care, said he expected the
Claims Conference money to go towards providing home care, medical equipment,
minor home modifications, transport, socialisation programs, medicine,
occupational therapy and other assistance for survivors.
“Each
grant is audited and Jewish Care’s Holocaust survivor advisory and
sub-committees – which are made up of Holocaust survivors together with key
organisations that represent Holocaust survivors – oversee the
administration of the grant,” Ucko said.
According
to Julius Berman, chairman of the Claims Conference, the organisation is at
the forefront of identifying the social welfare and health needs of Jewish
Holocaust survivors. “In these times of severe crisis for Jewish
philanthropy, the need for Claims Conference funds for social services is even
more essential to the wellbeing of elderly Nazi victims,” Berman said.
“The Claims Conference is committed to addressing the growing needs of Nazi
victims as they age and to easing, as much as possible, the lives of Nazi
victims in their last years.”
Most
of the funds allocated in 2009 are from a Claims Conference offshoot, known as
the Successor Organisation, which was established to access and distribute
Jewish WWII assets after the 1992 claims deadline.
The
Claims Conference was established in 1951 to sell and receive compensation
from unclaimed Jewish property and distribute the proceeds to organisations
that assist Shoah victims. Over the years, the conference reports that more
than US$60 billion has been distributed.
